CCC's Rising Professionals is a seven-month, virtual professional development program for new and rising managers in colleges and universities. As a manager, you will broaden your perspective and increase your impact in higher education and your unique institution through developing:
Community Launch Event: full-day session
This kick-off event brings managers from colleges and universities together to explore: the history of academia; your institution's mission, vision, and values; and its goals related to diversity, equity and inclusion. You will identify the connections between your daily work and the specific challenges facing your institution within the current societal context. You and your peers will share and learn from one another the unique rewards and challenges of being a manager within academia. You will also develop an individual learning plan and experience a practical introduction to peer coaching. Through online classroom interactions, activities designed to deepen connection and small breakout group work, you will be part of an engaged virtual learning cohort. January 2022 cohort schedule.
Community Learning & Reflection: 6 (2-hour) sessions
In the context of current priorities and challenges, monthly virtual sessions are an opportunity to share management experiences, learn new tools and content, and practice through application activities and discussion. The sessions are led by an experienced CCC facilitator. January 2022 schedule.
Session 1 -- Stress management, self-care & presence
Session 2 -- Skillful communication
Session 3 -- Delegation & prioritization
Session 4 -- Conflict management & difficult conversations
Session 5 -- Managing and guiding change for yourself and others
Session 6 -- Learning integration and on-going development
Homework: Approximately 1 hour per month
Readings, videos, tools and activities are assigned to deepen your learning and support application of concepts and information. These assignments are an important component of the Rising Professionals experience and provide the foundation on which the virtual Community Learning & Reflection sessions and Peer Coaching are built.
Peer Coaching & Integration: 6 (1.5 hrs) sessions
You will meet monthly with members of your cohort in a small, self-directed virtual coaching group. You and your peers will be trained in CCC's peer coaching methodology that incorporates theory and skills along with a specific peer coaching process. Peer coaching groups will receive supervision and feedback from the CCC facilitator. These coaching sessions help you to integrate program content through debriefing and reflecting on current experience, gathering perspective and input, and preparing for more practice. Engaging in this coaching practice throughout the program provides a powerful support for sustainable change and growth. These sessions are scheduled by you and your small peer group and take place between each of the monthly Community Learning & Reflection sessions.
Individual Coaching with a CCC Coach: 1 (1 hr) session
A one-on-one professional coaching session at the beginning of the program helps you set your learning goals as a manager. This coaching session provides a model that you will practice within your peer coaching group. The coaching is provided by the CCC program facilitator and scheduled in coordination with each participant.
Optional Program Feature: Follow-on Developmental Coaching
Build on your learning experience by adding (3) one-hour coaching sessions with the CCC Coach - $750
Integrating new behaviors and practices takes time, reflection and feedback. Individual coaching provides support for that process by creating a space for debriefing experiences, testing out new behaviors, receiving feedback and being challenged. Further the learning experience by engaging a CCC Coach for three additional sessions within the three month period immediately following your Rising Professionals Program.
