Our Approach & Services
For individuals, we offer coaching that blends thoughtful questions with real-time feedback and practical strategizing. We provide a trusting setting where clients can explore their leadership style, discover what holds them back, and empower them to become more effective leaders.
Cases:
A College President appointed a new Vice President, giving a significant promotion to a relatively young manager. The President offered, and the Vice President accepted, CCC coaching to assist with the transition. Within six months, the Vice President made difficult and necessary personnel changes, increased morale significantly, and established the office’s credibility with the President’s cabinet.
A college implementing its first leadership development program provided CCC coaching to the participants. With four hours of coaching during the eight-month program, each participant was able to apply the concepts and tools presented in workshops to their specific leadership challenges. Additionally, with the help of CCC coaching, each participant created an individualized development plan to guide their post-program learning.
Services: Transition Coaching, Developmental Coaching, 360 assessments
For Teams
For on-going teams, we create a learning environment that provides access to the groups’ collective wisdom. Through skillful facilitation and coaching, we lower the unintentional group barriers that prevent full use of team members’ insights, talents and energies in the service of shared goals.
Cases:
A new Dean, appointed to replace a controversial and long-serving predecessor, engaged CCC to improve communication and collaboration within her leadership team. Through a series of facilitated conversations, plus the use of tools such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the team moved beyond what the Dean considered “intractable issues” to become an effective team.
A Vice President for Human Resources recognized that the HR Department was under considerable stress related to the pace of changes being implemented across the institution as well as unresolved tensions among the staff. One-on-one interviews, facilitated conversations, and consultation with the leadership team to implement improved communications practices resulted in significant increase in morale and the retention of a valued, long-standing employee.
Services: Strategic planning, leadership team assessment and development, team coaching, skillful facilitation
For Cohorts
For learning cohorts, we create “communities of practice,” where groups participate in periodic facilitated conversations that combine timely skill development with practice peer coaching. In this setting, issues can be explored openly, best practices can be shared, and experiments in new behaviors can be tried and evaluate.
Cases:
Under the auspices of The Boston Consortium for Higher Education, CCC facilitated the Academic Leaders Program. This four-part program engaged faculty from across the Consortium’s member schools in dialogue and learning about the leadership and management expertise needed in their new roles. The focus is on challenges such as preparing for and participating in performance reviews, addressing conflict in the department, establishing a new working relationship with faculty colleagues, and representing the department to the rest of the institution.
An institution seeking to refresh its Learning and Development offerings engaged CCC to create a “Managers' Community of Practice.” Designed for those who have participated in traditional managerial skills training, this Community of Practice met eight times during the academic year to provide an opportunity to discuss difficult managerial challenges, to practice skills previously presented, and to create an on-going peer coaching community.
Services: Customized development and skill-building programs for leaders, managers and supervisors, “Emerging Leader” and “Just Promoted” programs
